GSG Mess- und Analysengeräte Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH (Karlsruhe,
Germany) has signed a contract to buy the remaining inventory of
HP G2030A MALDI-TOF-MS systems from Hewlett-Packard Co. (Palo Alto,
CA).
GSG plans to respond to customer demands and modify the G2030A
with a High Performance Upgrade to include Time-Lag-Focussing and
enhanced digitization. HP discontinued sales of the product from
1st February but will continue to support its installed base of
around 100 units. Of the units acquired by GSG three have already
been sold including one to Hoeft Rademacher Ltd., London. Responsibility
for the product is currently being transferred to daughter company
GSG Analytical Instruments Ltd. in Warrington, England.
This follows on from an earlier agreement made last year whereby
GSG entered into an agreement to co-operate in the distribution
of GC, GC-MS, GCD, GC-AED and MALDI-TOF products in Germany and
in the UK.
Rüdiger Gohlke, President of GSG, which also offers FT-ICR-MS and
other MS products, stated that "GSG is gradually increasing the
proportion of total revenues from own-manufactured products in order
to strengthen the company's long-term future in the analytical instrument
business. This began with a new generation of Curie-Point-Pyrolyser
for GC and GC/MS jointly developed with Fischer in Meckenheim, Germany.
Further products will follow."
